Over 100,000 Online Multiplayer Football Matches During First Weekend
Press Release
June 13, 2008
With the Euro 2008 in full-swing, Power Challenge's football game, Power Soccer (http://www.powerchallenge.com), has given fans a chance to show their support for their favorite Euro Cup teams in a new way: by playing head-to-head, web-based, console-quality football games as their favorite national team against fans of their team's real-life opponents.
"We've taken our best-in-class online multiplayer soccer game and provided a twist, where you get to power your national team against their next rival in the Euro Cup," said CEO Johan Christenson. "It expands the way our players think about the game, by socializing around the teams they love, and throws in a good dose of competition too. It really takes the game to the next level."
Just introduced in time for the Euro 2008, Power Challenge added the Power Soccer Fan Zone TM where users can choose a team to support, view the latest news from the Euro Cup and post comments back and forth about their teams.
In addition, Real Team Challenge TM allows rival supporters to face-off in their favorite team's next match in the Euro 2008. Whichever team has accumulated the most wins in head-to-head play before the real-world match begins, scores 3 points in the Real Team Challenge standings. Then players begin their next matchup and continue to play all the way through the Euro Cup final.
Not only do users get to show off their support for their favorite team, but by playing well, they can power their team to the top in Power Soccer's Euro 2008 standings. Plus top fans are rewarded by making the daily leader board as the top performers on their team's fan page.
"We are ecstatic with the response to Real Team Challenge," said Christenson. "We know we have a great game that users love to play, and this is just our first step in expanding the way our users interact around the game."
During the first weekend of the Euro 2008, Power Soccer users have played over 100,000 matches. Real Team Challenge matches around the Euro Cup are free to play at http://www.powerchallenge.com?p=fanzone and results from matches are counted in the Real Team Challenge standings once a user registers.
